Young Sheldon star Raegan Revord comes out as non-binary

Young Sheldon star Raegan Revord has come out as non-binary at the age of 17, crediting gender-fluid celebrities before them.

Ragaen Revord, who portrayed Melissa Cooper – the younger twin sister of Big Bang Theory character Sheldon – in the CBS prequel sitcom, has celebrated their gender identity in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“It’s so cool because growing up, whenever I would see a celebrity or whoever come out as non-binary or queer or anything, I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is so cool, I see myself in you,’” Revord said while discussing their debut novel Rules for Fake Girlfriends.

“And now it’s so crazy to have that experience where I’m now that person and there might be a kid somewhere who’s like, ‘Oh my God, I see myself in you,’” they continued.

“And that’s such an insane thing ‘cause I was in that kid’s shoes at some point in my life.”

Revord, 17, changed their pronouns on social media to they/ them in January this year, but had not publicly addressed their gender identity until now.

Revord portrayed Missy Cooper for seven seasons from 2017 to 2024. They had previously appeared on Modern Family, Grace and Frankie and more

Their debut novel, Rules for Fake Girlfriends, is a sapphic romance novel, published by Wednesday Books.

The novel follows Avery Blackwell, a girl obsessed with rom-coms but, who is always single. When she abandons her plans to attend Columbia to instead spend her freshman year at her recently deceased mother’s alma mater in England, Avery is determined to change things.

She meets local girl Charlie on the train and makes a deal – if Avery pretends to be Charlie’s girlfriend to make an ex jealous, Charlie will help Avery solve the on-campus scavenger hunt her mother left on campus. And we won’t spoil any more – but their might be more between the pair…
