Another delay to Grand Theft Auto 6 would cause many to completely lose their minds, but for what it’s worth, Take-Two’s CEO is fairly confident that the game’s 26th May 2026 launch date will stick.
In a recent interview with US news channel CNBC (as caught by Kotaku), the ever-talkative Strauss Zelnick was asked if he’s sure of the aforementioned date — or more specifically, what his current “level of conviction” is.
“[My] level of conviction is very, very high, obviously,” Zelnick replies.
Of course, you wouldn’t expect the CEO to say much more than that, not when, as noted, GTA 6 has already been the victim of a hefty delay. Everyone at Rockstar and all the suits at Take-Two will be pushing for that May release no matter what; there’s simply too much riding on this thing.
When queried on the expectations surrounding GTA 6, he starts off quite reasonable, saying: “We try not to pump expectations, right?”
But right after, he bigs up the title’s colossal potential: “I think Rockstar’s whole stock and trade is to have these extraordinary expectations and still to beat them. I know that’s their goal. I know it’s going to be an amazing game. The rest we’ll see in the fullness of time.”
It goes without saying that the utterly unprecedented success of Grand Theft Auto 5 places an extremely heavy burden on its sequel. The lead up to launch is going to be fascinating, especially as we get to glimpse more and more of the game itself.
