Whoopi Goldberg Says She Has Too Many Bills To Retire

Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t think she’s in a place to pass up a paycheck.

The host of “The View” explained why she doesn’t see herself retiring any time soon while talking to Entertainment Tonight in an interview published Tuesday.

Asked if she ever thinks about “slowing down,” the Oscar-winner laughed and said, “Yeah, but who can afford to do that? You know, if you don’t marry well, you gotta keep working.”

Though the reporter suggested that Goldberg “could probably afford” life without having a gig, the comedic great said, “No, not by now. Not yet.”

“I gotta keep paying those bills, baby,” added the star, who turns 70 in November.

This isn’t the first time Goldberg has talked about staying in the game for financial reasons.

In fact, the actor received significant pushback last year when she told her fellow panelists, “I work for a living… If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, OK? So, I’m a working person, you know?”

While it’s unclear how much Goldberg is paid for her gig on “The View” these days, back in 2016, Variety reported she had renewed her contract for somewhere in the $5 million to $6 million range.

Goldberg and “The View” crew kicked off their 29th season on Monday.

The “Sister Act” star, who is one of the most outspoken liberal voices on the long-running ABC series, has been with the show since 2007.
