Boeheim’s Army took down Herkimer Originals 97-71 in the first round of The Basketball Tournament. Former Orange star Buddy Boeheim led the way with 24 points, shooting 7-of-9 on 3-pointers. Elijah Hughes also had 21 points, making 5-of-8 threes.
Boeheim and Hughes were the driving force for Boeheim’s Army shooting 62% on 3-pointers, making 18-of-29 as a team. The only other starter with double-digit points was point guard Jacob Gilyard, who had a 10 point, 11 assist double-double. Buddy’s younger brother Jimmy Boeheim was the top scorer off the bench, adding 10 points of his own.
Boeheim’s Army is led by former Orange player and current assistant Allen Griffin. Griffin played at Syracuse from 1997-2001 and became an assistant under Jim Boeheim in 2017. He’s remained an assistant under Adrian Autry and is getting some head coaching experience this summer with some of his former players.
We Are D3 beat Laynes Hope 75-71 in the first round of The Basketball Tournament. Ty Nichols led the way with 20 points in the win.
Boeheim’s Army is a 9.5-point favorite (-520) to beat We Are D3 (+370) on FanDuel.
