Owen McKenny was one of the subject’s interviewed for Netflix’s hit documentary series, Unknown Number: The High School Catfish.
If you haven’t watched yet, the doc follows a young teen couple in Michigan, Lauryn Licari and her boyfriend Owen. In October 2020, and then again in September 2021, they start receiving graphic, cyber-bullying texts from an unknown number. The texts get more frequent as time goes on and are quite graphic. Some texts that were shown in the documentary even say that Lauryn should take her own life.
“It was so bad to the point where I didn’t want to even go to school anymore. Each and every day I’d feel like I’d lose trust in everyone,” Owen expressed in the documentary.
The school investigated and for months, thought a student might be involved.

In December 2022, Lauryn‘s own mother, Kendra Licari, ended up getting arrested for the crime and she went to prison for sending the texts. She was released in August of 2024.

Owen and Lauryn explained in the documentary that they broke up due to the texts. They eventually had no contact.
Based on information from Field Level, it looks as if Owen will be playing baseball for Hope College in Holland, Michigan. He graduated from Beal City High School in Michigan in 2025.
