What will you be looking for in the Detroit Lions’ final preseason game of 2025?

If you were to ask players from the Detroit Lions, I am sure they would tell you that training camp has felt anything but short. Having began practicing back in July prior to the Hall of Fame game, the team has been at it for a while. However, just as quickly as it began, training camp wrapped up with one last joint practice between Detroit and the Houston Texans prior to their final preseason game on Saturday, August 23.

With only days to get down to 53 players on the roster prior to the start of the regular season, there is plenty to do for the Lions’ front office before they travel to Wisconsin to play the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. And while there likely won’t be any starters on the field for the Lions, there are still several questions that still need to be answered prior to cutdowns.

There is the conversation surrounding the backup quarterback position, and whether or not third-year quarterback Hendon Hooker can do enough to earn a spot on the final roster. Luckily for him, he should get plenty of opportunities against the Texans, in what could be his last chance to impress the coaching staff. Elsewhere, there are battles for a few depth spots at positions like cornerback, wide receiver, and edge, and factors like how players perform on special teams should weigh heavily while making those decisions.

Question of the day: What are you looking for in the Lions’ final preseason matchup of 2025?

Answer: I would like it if we got a definitive answer on Hooker, and I think you get that by allowing him to play the entire game against the Texans. I am a big proponent of progress not being linear, and while things have come along slower than some would have liked for the former Tennessee quarterback, he still has a few tools that make him an intriguing prospect at the position.

One way or another, I think we should have our final answer on whether or not Hooker deserves a roster spot by the end of the game on Saturday. That is what I will be watching the closest, but what about you? What will you be keeping an eye out for in the final preseason game of 2025 at Ford Field? Let us know in the comments below.
