After hearing Erika Kirk’s speech at her husband’s funeral, actor Tim Allen shared that he was deeply affected by her words.
On Thursday, Allen posted on X, sharing that he was moved by Kirk’s declaration of forgiveness for the man who allegedly killed her husband, Charlie Kirk, because it has not been as easy for him to forgive.
“When Erika Kirk spoke the words on the man who killed her husband: ‘That man … that young man … I forgive him’ — that moment deeply affected me,” the actor wrote on X.
“I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my Dad,” Allen continued. “I will say those words now as I type: ‘I forgive the man who killed my father.’ Peace be with you all.”
Allen’s father, real estate agent Gerald M. Dick, was killed in Colorado in November 1964 while driving his wife and a car full of children home from a football game, per USA Today. A drunk driver swerved into a median and collided with his vehicle.
Over the years, Allen has spoken about how his father’s death changed his life.
On Sunday, during Kirk’s memorial service, Erika Kirk publicly forgave 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is accused of killing the Turning Point USA founder, per Fox News.
Her husband “wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life,” she said.
“I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it is what Charlie would do,” Erika Kirk said at the memorial in Glendale, Arizona. “The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the Gospel is love.”
