With over 80% of all PS5 and PS4 purchases made through the PS Store this past quarter, you can see why Sony’s storefront is a massive point of importance for the platform holder.

The problem is, it’s got a long way to go before it catches up to much better digital storefronts, like the gold-standard Steam.

In an SIE Blog post, the company has reflected on some of the features it’s added over the past few years, including ratings, Apple Pay, passkeys, and accessibility tags. But with so many obvious features and functions missing, it makes for a rather uninspiring list.

The good news is Sony says it’s committed to “continue evolving the player experience” and to “keep an eye out for even more improvements that we’ll be working on”.

There are various improvements we’d personally like to see: the larger wishlist no longer works on PS5, and it should be possible to filter it by software on sale like on the Switch 2.

We’d like the web store to be more media rich like Steam, as it currently doesn’t include screenshots or trailers, which is a travesty.

Furthermore, there are some UI issues which have bugged us for years – like the fact you can’t see if a game on your wishlist is on sale if it has a PS Plus demo.

We know streering a ship as large as the PS Store must be difficult, but considering just how much money Sony is making through it, we’re staggered it’s not getting iterated on quicker. It often feels flaky and if you’re not familiar with its quirks then it’s not intuitive at all.

You made over $1 billion in profit during your most recent quarter, Sony – invest some of that into an improved PS Store experience so we can more easily give you more of our money.
