“Avatar: The Way of Water” returns to theaters worldwide on Oct. 3, and fans who go to relive James Cameron’s 2022 blockbuster on the big screen will be rewarded with a sneak peak at its sequel, “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” Each screening of the “The Way of Water” re-release will be accompanied by never-before-seen “Fire and Ash” footage. However, not every screening will offer the same experience.
There are three different, brand new clips from “Fire and Ash” that will play after “The Way of Water,” but each screening will only play one of the three.
“Fire and Ash” is the third film in James Cameron’s “Avatar” series, which began in 2009 with “Avatar” and picked up thirteen years later with “The Way of Water.” The first movie was a landmark achievement in visual effects and motion capture, and a milestone at the box office. It grossed over $2.9 billion dollars worldwide and maintains its spot as the highest-grossing film of all time. “The Way of Water” fared similarly well, introducing even more novel special effects from Weta Workshop and grossing $2.3 billion worldwide. It is the third highest-grossing film of all time, after its predecessor and “Avengers: Endgame.”
The third installment will see the return of Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña’s Jake Sully and Neytiri whose family and tribe encounter an enemy Na’vi group called the Ash People. As conflict escalates, the fate of Pandora may rest in their hands.
In addition to Worthington and Saldaña, “Fire & Ash” will also see the returns of Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, Bailey Bass, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion and Edie Falco. Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis will make their franchise debuts as new characters.
James Cameron and Jon Landau produced “Fire and Ash.” Disney’s 20th Century Studios will release the film in theaters worldwide on Dec. 19.
