Nebraska vs. Minnesota: The matchup
A Penn State alumnus, Rhule’s name features prominently in the search to replace former coach James Franklin, who was fired after the Nittany Lions fell to Northwestern, 23-22, for their third consecutive loss. Now in his third season with the Cornhuskers, Rhule has a reputation for program rebuilds during his time at Temple, where he was 28-23 in four seasons, as well as Baylor (19-20) and now at Nebraska, where he is 17-14 in 31 games. The Huskers cracked the national rankings this week after beating Maryland on the road (34-31) on the strength of a Dylan Raiola touchdown pass to Dane Key with 1:08 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Minnesota matches Nebraska’s 2-1 record in Big Ten play with wins over Rutgers (31-28) and Purdue (27-20) to offset a 42-3 road loss to No. 1 Ohio State. The Gophers rebounded from that lopsided defeat to the reigning national champs by defeating Purdue by scoring a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns just seven seconds apart. Quarterback Drake Lindsey tied the game at 20 with a 4-yard scoring strike to Jameson Geers with 7:47 remaining, and Koi Perich intercepted a Ryan Browne pass and returned it 27 yards for the game-winning score on the very next play.
