Walmart is offering the best price I’ve seen on a new MacBook laptop. Right now you can pick up an Apple MacBook Air 13″ with M1 Chip for just $599 with free delivery. This is a brand new, retail packaged laptop that is sold by Walmart directly, not by a marketplace vendor, and comes with a 1 year Apple warranty. This older generation MacBook is still a very capable laptop for general productivity use and an affordable option for anyone heading back to school.
Macbook Air 13″ M1 (8GB/256GB) for $599
Available in Gold and Silver
The MacBook Air 13″ M1 (MGN93LL/A) was released back in 2020. It features a 13.3″ 2560×1600 (227ppi) Retina display with P3 Wide Color and True Tone, Apple M1 chip with 8-core CPU and 7-core GPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. The MacBook Air measures 0.63″ thin and weighs 2.8 pounds, thanks to its unibody aluminum chassis. Connectivity options include two Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) ports for high-speed storage expansion or peripherals. Because the MacBook Air offers so much versatility for its price, it’s the best MacBook to buy for most people.
The M1 chip was a groundbreaking chip when it was first released, offering top-level performance and outstanding energy efficiency at an entry level price point. Although the same chip is now five years old (we are now up to the M4), that performance overhead makes it a relevant processor today. It’s still very capable of handling everyday productivity tasks including 4K video streaming, word processing, browsing, and even light Photoshop and video editing. It will still perform better than most Chromebooks and Windows laptops within this price range.
I’m not exactly sure where Walmart scrounged up these brand new laptops but, at this moment, no one else is offering a new MacBook laptop for sale at this price. However, if you’re interested in picking up a new 2025 MacBook Air instead, they’re actually on sale as well. The 2025 MacBook Air M4 13″ laptop is currently just $799 on Amazon. Alternatively, you can step up to the 15″ model for $999. These prices are only going on during the Apple Back to School Sale that happens every summerand it’s unlikely these prices will drop lower during Black Friday.
