Facing high expectations with a quarterback about to play his first NFL snaps, the Vikings are looking to address their uncertainty at wide receiver.
Minnesota is “seriously exploring” a trade for a veteran receiver, NFL Network reported Wednesday, though nothing is imminent.
While the Vikings are getting Justin Jefferson back on the practice field this week after he dealt with a hamstring issue, there are major question marks behind him.
Jordan Addison, the Vikings’ first-round pick in 2023, was suspended three games by the NFL earlier this month for violating the league’s substance abuse policy after pleading no contest in a DUI case.
Rondale Moore, who signed with the Vikings after missing all of last season with the Falcons due to a knee injury, suffered another season-ending knee injury during a preseason game on Aug. 9.
Fourth-year receiver Jalen Nailor, who figured to benefit from the absences of Addison and Moore, recently suffered a hand injury and is considered week-to-week.
Where can the Vikings turn for wide receiver help as quarterback J.J. McCarthy takes over a 14-3 team after missing his entire rookie season due to knee surgery?
Tyreek Hill
The mercurial Dolphins star has been the subject of trade rumors ever since the end of last season, when he declared, “I’m out, bro.” He remains with a Miami team that appears to be at an inflection point after missing the playoffs last season in head coach Mike McDaniel’s third year at the helm.
Hill, 31, has two years left on a three-year, $90 million contract, though he can be cut after the 2025 season with a manageable $15.5 million dead cap hit.
Terry McLaurin
The 29-year-old is currently in a contract standoff with the Commanders. Washington likely has little appetite for trading the two-time Pro Bowler after reaching the NFC Championship game last season with then-rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
McLaurin had 82 catches, 1,096 yards receiving and a career-high 13 touchdowns last season, which was his fourth straight year playing in all 17 games.
Kendrick Bourne
The Patriots have revamped their receiving corps, and Bourne could find himself on the outside looking in.
The 30-year-old had 28 catches for 305 yards and one touchdown in 12 games last season. He’s in the second year of a three-year, $19.5 million contract.
