WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. (KUTV) — A Utah man has been identified as one of the three people killed in a plane crash south of West Yellowstone, Montana.
Utah resident Kurt Enoch Robey, 55, and Tennessee residents Rodney Conover, 60, and Madison Conover, 23, died in the crash on Friday, July 18, according to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 1:40 p.m., dispatch received a call regarding a possible crash. Officials with the U.S. Department of Transportation Aero Division also reported a missing plane that had departed from the West Yellowstone Airport just before midnight the day before.

Two planes were sent to search for the missing aircraft, identified as a Piper PA-28-180, using one of the occupants’ last smart watch location. The search planes found the plane “crashed in dense timber” south of the town near South Plateau Road, officials said.
Search and rescue crews from multiple agencies were then sent to the area and found the airplane and all three occupants deceased. The bodies were then recovered from the site and transferred to the county coroner.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
“Sheriff Springer would like to extend his deepest condolences to the Conover and Robey families for their respective losses,” the sheriff’s office statement said.
A GoFundMe fundraiser on behalf of the Robey family said, “We are heartbroken over his loss, but grateful that he was doing what he loved: flying.”
