The United Airlines flight UA1270 departed Chicago O’Hare International Airport at 09:29 CDT to Punta Cana.
About 2 hours into the flight, the pilots decided to change course while cruising at 33,000 feet for a reason still unknow.
The Boeing 737-900ER (registration N75426) turned left toward New York. The plane is expected to land at Newark Airport.
The crew declared a general emergency (squawk 7700) for a reason still unknown.
The airline is confirming diversion to Newark and scheduling a new departure at 4.00 PM.
