If you’ve been hunting for a high quality co-op game to play on your PS5, and you’ve seen practically everything you want to see in Helldivers 2, then GODBREAKERS may just fit your needs.
Published by Thunderful Games – which itself was just acquired by Atari – and developer debutant To the Sky, this melee focused four-player affair looks like a frighteningly fun effort.
“As the first title for our studio, we wanted to create a game that feels fast, fluid, and fun, where every moment is a chance to unleash chaos alongside your friends,” executive producer Jugo Mirkovi said in a press release.
“We’ve poured years worth of knowledge into crafting the best gameplay experience possible in GODBREAKERS, and we’re so excited to finally share it with the world.”
While the art does look a little derivative for our tastes, it’s really the combat that is the key here.
The blurb notes that you’ll be able to absorb powers from your opponents a bit like Kirby, and then use these abilities to turn the tides of battle.
In addition to waves of fodder to blitz through, you’ll also find larger-than-life bosses with multi-phase attack patterns, each testing your reflexes and coordination.
You’ll also be able to shape your own personal playstyle, unlocking “archetypes” which come with unique weapons and traits. The press release explains that you’ll be able to “refine your identity with every run”, and you’ll need to think about how your avatar complements the rest of your team.
While the full game will feature six different biomes, these will be randomised to improve playability. You’ll also be able to setup modifiers that remix the gameplay, so it sounds like there’ll be plenty of reasons to replay.
Oh, and if you’re not a fan of co-op, you will be able to “sharpen your skills” in a solo environment, although the press release does stress that the “real adrenaline rush happens in cooperative play”.
There’s no word on a price or release date just yet, but a demo is now available on PC. Has this caught your attention at all? Break the gods in the comments section below.
