Alon Aboutboul, known best for his acting roles in FX’s “Snowfall,” has died at the age of 60.
The Israeli-born actor died Tuesday after collapsing on HaBonim Beach near Tel Aviv, his manager confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Aboutboul collapsed on the beach shortly after alerting bystanders that he wasn’t feeling well when he got out of the water. The actor received CPR on the scene but couldn’t be revived.
One bystander said that Aboutboul’s collapse “happened in an instant,” according to Ynet.
“After a few minutes, he suddenly came out of the water, approached people and said he wasn’t feeling well, and then they called for help. Everyone was really scared. He came out of the water and collapsed on the beach. Everyone wanted to help, and they recognized who it was when he came out of the water. This is a terrible tragedy here this morning, everyone here is in shock,” the beachgoer said in a statement translated by The Evening Standard.
Aboutboul, whose career spanned more than 40 years, got his big acting break in the film “Ricochets” in 1986. He went on to star in “Rambo III” (1988), “Body of Lies” (2008), “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012) and “London Has Fallen” (2016). He also appeared in TV series like “Homeland,” “Twin Peaks,” and “The Leftovers.”
His most popular role came when he played big-time drug supplier Avi Drexler in the hit crime-drama series “Snowfall,” from 2017 to 2022.
Former “Snowfall” castmate Damson Idris shared a photo of the two actors on his Instagram Tuesday.
“Thank you for teaching me so much,” Idris captioned the Instagram story post.
Fellow “Snowfall” star Amin Joseph also shared a tribute to Aboutboul on Instagram Tuesday.
“Rest in peace to the plug. Rest in power, Alon Aboutboul. Your work as Abi Drexler on Snowfall left a lasting impression — sharp, layered, unforgettable. You brought truth to every frame. Grateful we shared the screen,” the post read.
Aboutboul is survived by his wife, Shir Bilia, and their four children.
“Alon was a brilliant actor, a true artist, an Israeli icon … but more importantly, he was a loving father of his four children and a dear friend of mine and many others,” the actor’s manager, Mark Teitelbaum, told The Hollywood Reporter. “As you might imagine, his family is in shock. He will be deeply missed. May his memory be a blessing.”
