Back in 2022, the Try Guys — the popular quartet of YouTubers who got their start at BuzzFeed — announced they’d cut ties with one of their four members, Ned Fulmer, after he admitted to cheating on his wife with one of the group’s employees. It was a shocking turn of events for fans of the group, particularly considering Fulmer’s branding of himself as a proud “wife guy.” In the wake of the scandal, Fulmer was edited out of the group’s not-yet-published videos, and the Try Guys carried on as a trio.
Now, three years have passed, and the ex–Try Guy is ready to try again. In a People magazine exclusive on Tuesday, Fulmer gave his first interview since the incident. “I feel ready to share my story and to move on into a new chapter,” Fulmer said.
Fulmer and his wife, Ariel, are still married, and he said “trying to understand why I had done what I had done” was the first step in saving their marriage. “That was most devastating to work through and to realize — how much pain I had caused her,” he said. “If I were looking at a past version of myself, how I’d really want to change [is] the way I’d been interacting with her.”
The two went to couples therapy, where they worked to rebuild trust, even when Fulmer said there were “many points” he thought they wouldn’t make it. Now, he says their relationship is “certainly stronger than it was before” and that they have a “much clearer sense of boundaries.” “Every cent that we spent on therapy was worth it for the improvements in our family life,” he said.
Oh, and by the way, he’s launching a podcast. Obviously. Rock Bottom, which launches Wednesday, will focus on people who’ve hit particularly low points in their life. “It’s made me a lot more interested in other people’s challenging times,” he said of the time since his scandal. “When someone does something that they’re really ashamed about or that is deeply traumatizing, life goes on. So what happens next?”
The first episode is a conversation with his wife, and recording it was apparently “so brutal at times that we wanted to get up and walk out of the room,” Fulmer said. Sounds fun!
