YouTube has agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit brought against it by President Trump in 2021 for deleting his account on the platform after the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot. $22 million of the settlement from the Alphabet (GOOGL) subsidiary will go toward the nonprofit Trust for the National Mall, while the remaining $2.5 million will be received by other plaintiffs.

Trump Lawyer Credits His Return to Office for Big Tech Payouts
YouTube noted that it removed Trump’s account due to content that could incite violence. In 2023, a judge ruled to dismiss Trump’s lawsuit against the company, although his team later appealed the decision.
Trump has secured more than $80 million in settlement money from tech companies during the past year, including $25 million from Meta Platforms (META) and $10 million from X.
“If he had not been re-elected, we would have been in court for 1,000 years,” said John P. Coale, a lawyer for Trump. “It was his re-election that made the difference.”
