Following the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, thousands of notes and memorabilia left at a makeshift memorial in Birmingham, England, will be preserved and catalogued, while the flowers will be mulched and scattered at the metal icon’s grave at his estate in Buckinghamshire, where he was laid to rest last week.
According to the BBC, Central BID, the city organization managing the memorials, has confirmed that all floral tributes will be mulched and scattered at Osbourne’s grave, including the black flowers laid by his family at the Black Sabbath bench on Broad Street. A dedicated team is currently “working around the clock” to sort and process the thousands of items left by fans from across the globe.
Each item, from flowers and handwritten messages to replica bats and band shirts — is being photographed and recorded at a secure warehouse. The Osbourne family will receive both a digital archive and a hard copy memorial book, preserving every gesture of remembrance. In an interview with the BBC, Paul Barnett of Central BID said, “There’s a forever memorial, if you will, for the love people had for Ozzy.”

Discussing the unusual items fans left, Barnett pointed to the profound connection many felt with Osbourne: “I think partly that’s because he was such a unique individual and people loved him because he could always just be himself. That meant a lot of people felt they could just be themselves and you see that written time and time again with the tributes. It’s overwhelming, it’s beautiful.”
Barnett further explained that Central BID has maintained a longstanding relationship with the Osbourne family, and that the family wanted “all that love recorded.”
Non-perishable tributes such as toys and memorabilia will be used to raise funds for charity “so Ozzy keeps up the good work he likes to promote,” Mr Barnett said.
The Osbourne family personally visited the Birmingham memorial on July 30th, as Ozzy’s coffin was driven through his hometown during a public funeral procession attended by thousands.
