Travis Kelce is swearing to be overdramatic and true to his lover Taylor Swift.
After the couple, both 35, announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post Aug. 26, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end couldn’t contain his joy while addressing the couple’s milestone for the first time.
“I appreciate everybody that reached out and sent something, and all the posts and all the excitement that’s been going on,” Travis told brother Jason Kelce during the Sept. 3 episode of their New Heights podcast. “It’s been really fun telling everybody who I’m going to be spending the rest of my life with…It’s been awesome.”
He also went on to agree with Jason that calling someone their “fiancée” gave him a special feeling, noting that that their recent outing at the University of Cincinnati Bearcats’ football game as a couple was a big one.
“It was my first time introducing Taylor as my fiancée to a few of my teammates,” Travis added, “so yeah, it was pretty cool…I still get giddy, it’s exciting times.”
Travis’ sweet words come a little more than a week after Taylor joked alongside photos of the couple’s grand engagement photos, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
In addition to the caption, Taylor also included a subtle nod to the couple’s initials by adding a dynamite emoji, or, “TNT.”

While the couple’s grand announcement sent shock waves through social media—with pals like Sabrina Carpenter, Patrick Mahomes, Brittany Mahomes and more sharing their congratulations—it has been a long time coming. After all, less than a month before they announced their engagement, Travis detailed just how in love he was with the superstar.
“Whenever I’m with her, it feels like we’re just regular people,” he told GQ in an interview published Aug. 12. “When there is not a camera on us, we’re just two people that are in love.”
And the New Heights co-host emphasized that while their romance has been a total touchdown in terms of cultural impact, it has been nothing but “organic” behind closed doors.
“We are two fun-loving people who have the morals to appreciate everyone for who they are,” he continued. “We share all those values. It kind of just took the f–k off.”
As he put it, “We fell in love just based off the people we were sitting in a room together.”
Of course, the romance itself wouldn’t have come around without at least a little grandiosity on Travis’ part. After all, Taylor admitted that she was quite taken with how publicly her now-fiancé pursued her after a failed attempt at a meet-cute during her Kansas City stop of the Eras Tour in 2023. (So it went, Travis called her out on New Heights the following week in July 2023, and Taylor reached out from there.)
Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce
“This kind of felt like I was in an ‘80s John Hughes movie and he was just standing outside of my window with a boombox being like, ‘I wanna date you!’” Taylor gushed on the Aug. 13 episode of New Heights. “‘Do you wanna go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet, do you want to date me?’”
Taylor hedged that at first the gesture felt a bit “crazy,” on her end, but she later realized it was a moment when the planets and the fates and all the stars aligned. She noted, “This is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.”
Travis, meanwhile, knew exactly how to get the girl—because Taylor made it abundantly clear.
“I was sitting there at the Eras Tour listening to every single one of those songs,” he noted. “Being like, ‘I know exactly what she wants me to do.’”

July 2023: So, Make the Friendship Bracelets
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s love story began in July 2023, when the singer’s Eras Tour made a stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
As a huge Swiftie, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end caught the show with hopes of giving Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it. However, he failed to complete the pass due to her pre-show rituals.
“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Travis shared on the July 26 episode of his New Heights podcast. “So, I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”
Summer 2023: This Is Him Trying
After publicly recounting his fumble—a move Taylor would later describe as “metal as hell”—Travis decided to shoot his shot and invite the Grammy winner to watch the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium.
“I threw it out there, I threw the ball in her court,” he shared on The Pat McAfee Show. “I told her, you know, ‘I’ve seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit.’ So, we’ll see what happens in the near future.”
August 2023: Enchanted to Meet You
Travis was rocking a mustache—which he debuted in August during training camp—when he was first introduced to Taylor.
As he later noted of the era, “That ‘stache and the 87 jersey was pretty iconic there for a little bit, and I had it when I met Taylor for the first time.”
