Toshiomi Kazama avoided any serious injuries despite getting dropped on his head in violent fashion after Elijah Smith slammed him to the ground with a powerbomb at UFC Vegas 109 on Saturday night.
It was a scary scene at the UFC APEX after Smith countered a triangle choke attempt by lifting Kazama into the air and then bringing him back down to the canvas with a devastating slam. Replays showed Kazama’s head slamming down to the canvas and he was knocked out immediately from the move.
Kazama stayed down on the ground for several minutes before he eventually started moving and he was immediately taken to a local Las Vegas hospital for treatment.
According to the UFC Vegas 109 broadcast via Dr. Jeff Davidson, Kazama underwent CT (computed tomography) scans on his head, face and neck and everything came back negative. As a result, Kazama is expected to be released from the hospital so he can return home without any further treatment required.
That’s all good news for Kazama after a stunning knockout ended with him laid out unconscious on the ground in a scary moment for everybody involved.
As for the fight itself, the loss dropped Kazama to 1-3 in the UFC while Smith improved to 9-1 in his career overall with a perfect 2-0 resume in the octagon.
