In addition to Galaxy AI, Samsung’s device also feature Google’s Gemini, which provides additional artificial intelligence features to its devices. These include Gemini Live, which enables the assistant to see what the camera sees or what’s on the screen to verbally assist the user.
Gemini is far from the only capable AI solution. There are many others, some more prominent than the others, and a top Samsung executive has now revealed that the company is looking at providing options beyond Gemini.
OpenAI and Perplexity are contenders for the job
Choi Won-Joon, president and COO of Samsung’s mobile division, confirmed to Bloomberg in an interview that the users will have more options for AI assistants on the Galaxy S26.
Samsung has already been in talks with Open AI and Perplexity AI, two of the more prominent competitors to Gemini, for a potential collaboration.
“We are talking to multiple vendors,” Choi confirmed, adding that as long as these AI agents are competitive and deliver top user experiences, “we are open to any AI agent out there.”
What shape these discussions may take remains to be seen, An earlier report indicated that Samsung was in talks to not just have Perplexity on its phones, but to also invest in the company. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, already works with Apple on AI for iPhones so Samsung would be a natural partner.
Samsung’s also reportedly choosing between chipset providers for the Galaxy S26 series. The company will evaluate both the Exynos 2600 from Samsung semiconductor and the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 from Qualcomm.
The Galaxy S26 series is expected to arrive early next year. There’s some evidence to suggest that it may drop the “+” model entirely from the lineup and replace it with the Galaxy S26 Edge.
