The NFL has reportedly relaxed the restrictions that prevented Tom Brady from attending production meetings with coaches and teams during the season due to his ownership stake with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Per The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, Brady will be allowed to take part in those weekly meetings leading up to games that he will be calling for Fox.
Marchand noted the league is expected to keep the rule in place that prevents Brady from attending team practices due to his Raiders ties.
Last season marked Brady’s first in the broadcast booth. He originally signed a 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox in 2022 that would take effect after his playing career ended.
Brady retired following the 2022 season, but he decided to hold off on stepping into broadcasting until 2024 to give himself more time to prepare. The seven-time Super Bowl champion joined Fox’s No. 1 broadcast team with play-by-play commentator Kevin Burkhardt and sideline reporters Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi.
In October, NFL owners voted to approve Brady’s purchase of a 10 percent stake in the Raiders. Before the vote, the league presented all 32 teams with an outline of rules he would be subject to in an effort to avoid any potential conflict of interest.
The list of restrictions Brady had to adhere to included him not being permitted to attend a team’s facility, witness practice or attend broadcast production meetings either in person or virtually.
Brady’s first season in the broadcast booth coincided with Fox having rights to Super Bowl 59. He was on the team that called the Philadelphia Eagles’ 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fox has already announced that its No. 1 NFL broadcast crew will be on the call for the Washington Commanders-New York Giants game in Week 1 and the Super Bowl rematch between the Eagles and Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2.
