CASS CITY, MI – A well-known Michigan family has come forward with a statement following the death of 3 of their relatives who were part of the TLC reality show “Meet the Putmans.”
The Putman family confirmed on social media Saturday afternoon that patriarch Bill “Papa” Putman, his wife “Neenee,” and Aunt Megan had all died in a car accident. 5 family members are still in the hospital.
According to the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 9 p.m., Sept. 26, on Deckerville Road near Hurds Corner Road in Cass City. Callers on scene advised there were multiple injuries.
They reported that a 55-year-old Florida man was driving a loaded commercial semi-truck with one female passenger on Hurds Corner Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign.
Police said the semi-truck collided with a Jeep occupied by 8 Cass City residents traveling eastbound on Deckerville Road.
Three were pronounced dead on the scene, and 5 other occupants of the Jeep were transported to respective hospitals, some in critical condition, police said. The Florida man has since been arrested, and it remains an active investigation.
“They have gone home to be with the Lord,” the Putmans wrote. “Please keep Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah and Gia in your prayers as they remain in the hospital. We are asking for complete healing and strength for each of them.”
The Putmans mentioned their close relationship with God, proclaiming that “even in this time of heartbreak,” they rest in knowing that “God is in control.”
They highlighted Bible scriptures to hold onto the “peace Jesus promised.”
“Because of all that sacrifice, we know Papa, Neenee and Aunt Megan are not gone forever. They are alive and whole in heaven before Jesus, hearing the words we all long to hear: ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant,’” the Putmans wrote.
“Meet the Putmans” premiered on TLC in 2017 and ran for one season, centered on the 25 members of the Putman family.
After the season ended, the family pivoted to YouTube and launched the “Growing Up Putman” channel.
The family requests continued prayers from the public and their loyal fans for their five relatives.
“Thank you for every prayer, message and act of love,” the statement reads. “Your support means more than words can express. Please continue to lift us, that our hearts remain fixed on the truth that Jesus conquered death so we could have eternal life.”
