This week in PC games: Outer Worlds 2, Arc Raiders, occult detectives and some chunky strategy games

Happy this week all! Good news, James has returned from India and appears none the worse for his voyages. I was hoping he’d come back with a top-to-bottom report on Indian game development, but no, it turns out the smirking jackanapes was merely “on holiday”. Still, we welcome him back with open arms and in the Maw’s case, orifices, because it’s another stuffed week for PC game releases. Here are a few that seem noteworthy.

Monday 27th October

  • Terra Firma 2 is a sandbox god sim in which you sculpt terrain and watch as it fills up with eagles, trees and such.
  • The Séance of Blake Manor (pictured) is a first person supernatural detective mystery set in 1897 Ireland with inky, Hellboy-esque visuals.
  • People hungry for another historical Total War may be diverted by Master of Command, which is set during the Seven Years’ War from 1756 to 1763.
  • Simon the Sorcerer Origins is a prequel to the sarky 1993 point-and-clicker.

Tuesday 28th October

  • Death By Scrolling is not another word for owning a smartphone, but an endlessly upwardly mobile RPG from a team led by auld LucasArts fellah Ron Gilbert, creator of the Maniac Monkey and Mansion Island games.
  • Wreckreation is 400 square kilometres of picturesque scenery ready and waiting to be ruined by cars.
  • Silly Polly Beast is a garish, third-person survival horror in which a skateboarding orphan fights her demons, mostly in a literal way.
  • As Long As You’re Here is a short, poignant, semi-autobiographical game about a woman living with Alzheimer’s disease.
  • DSS 2: War Industry is a medieval grand wargame that simulates “hundreds of thousands” of workers and soldiers in real-time.

Wednesday 29th October

  • Dark Moon is a real-time survival strategy game featuring a walking mecha-base. It reminds me of The Alters and Anoxia Station.
  • The Outer Worlds 2 sees Obsidian heading to space once again to level up companion members and do underwhelming satire of large corporations.
  • Explore a metal labyrinth full of logic puzzles as a happy glowing ball in Orbyss.

Thursday 30th October

  • Resonance Solstice combines train simulations with trading simulations with anime girls with deckbuilder combat – a clear effort to atomise the protesting remnants of my brain.
  • Hack and slash platformer Majogami takes place in a world of gorgeously patterned and sliceable paper.
  • Arc Raiders is the new extraction shooter from them wot did The Finals. I have played a pre-release build, and would break it down as follows: 30% sliding downhill, 30% failing to slide uphill, 20% shooting, 10% looting, 10% trying to be friends.

Friday 31st October

What are we of the Treehouse doing this week? Well, the electricians turned my power off during the morning Slack meeting, so I’m not quite sure, but I think James is departing again shortly – this time, he’s off on an actual press trip. Mark spent a lot of the meeting talking about how much Hong Kong dollars are worth – make of that what you will.

Ollie is about to cap his magnum opus, our Silksong guides hub, and Jeremy is making in-roads on The Outer Worlds 2, while Callum is off to the races (Umamusume: Pretty Derby). I’ve got Arc on the brain and possibly roguelites and Total War as well. What are you up to, other than scornfully telling me about any games we’ve missed from the round-up?
