The scoreboard screamed “Make Noise,” but Yankees fans needed no encouragement. The fans were going wild, even managing to drown out the constant cacophony of The Stadium sound system operators, in celebration of the Yankees’ eighth playoff entry in nine seasons.
This one wasn’t pretty. But it ended beautifully, with new hero José Caballero dumping a humpback liner into center field, driving home the great Aaron Judge for a 3-2 walk-off win over the beleaguered last-place White Sox.
As wild as it was in the stands, it was nothing compared to the clubhouse, where players were jumping around, pouring champagne, and speaking of even better times ahead. They are about the hottest team in the game, and understandably, they like their chances.
“That’s a great way to clinch the postseason. But we’ve got to keep going,” Cody Bellinger bellowed above the din of a clubhouse gone wild.
