With Qualcomm’s newest processor finally official, Android OEMs aren’t holding back from teasing their respective next-gen hardware. We already knew the OnePlus 15 was on its way, but with today’s early reveal, we’re already starting to piece together what this new flagship looks like.
OnePlus is keeping its cards close to the chest on this one — no official renders or specs sheets to be found. Rather, the company is teasing out the OnePlus 15’s launch, starting with an official (albeit not particularly surprising) confirmation that it’ll be rocking the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. OnePlus has practically always utilized flagship processors for its mainline entries, but with plenty of changes coming our way for this next generation, it’s good to have confirmation on one piece that’s sticking to the usual track.
Speaking of changes, today’s announcement also acts as another reminder of the dissolution of the partnership between OnePlus and Hasselblad. The company says its “self-developed DetailMax image engine” utilizes “advanced algorithms and powerful processors” when taking photos, though we’ll have to wait and see what any results — real-world or otherwise — look like.
The OnePlus 15 will also provide an “unrivaled gaming experience” with gaming-specific software; it’s unclear if that’s different than the gaming mode already built into OxygenOS.
Battery sizes, RAM and storage allotments, display information — all of that will, unfortunately, have to wait for another day. OnePlus says it’ll have plenty more to say regarding its next flagship “in the coming weeks.” Compared to this point in the cycle last year, we’re a bit ahead of schedule on this launch, so don’t be surprised if this device ends up on store shelves before you know it.
