The first trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, which was previously rumored to drop earlier this week, is ready and could be released as soon as next week. This will put the trailer out in time to be attached to screenings of Disney’s upcoming TRON: Ares, which bows in theaters October 3.
The Heat Vision newsletter from The Hollywood Reporter has indicated that Disney and Lucasfilm have their first trailer for the film ready. There has been some buzz on social media for the past few days saying the trailer was to drop last Friday, but that it’s now been delayed to next week. THR did not mention this, just that Disney is sitting on one.
Lucasfilm has already shown full trailers to various convention audiences, including D23 last year and Star Wars Celebration earlier this year. The latter included a section of a scene where Din Djarin took over an AT-AT. It was later followed by random moments from the movie, and ended teasing Rotta the Hutt (reportedly played by Jeremy Allen White) inside a gladiator arena.
In any case, what we know about The Mandalorian and Grogu is that the movie will be a self-contained adventure spinning off of the new status quo presented at the end of the third season. Having been redeemed as a member of the Children of the Watch and having defeated Moff Gideon, Din Djarin and his adopted foundling son Din Grogu are now living a new life being supported by the New Republic, being given a new task that will take them across the galaxy far, far away. Along the way, they will cross paths with Rotta the Hutt, the son of the late, infamous Jabba.
The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026. The film is directed by Jon Favreau, written by Favreau and Dave Filoni, and produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Favreau, Filoni, and Ian Bryce. The film stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, Sigourney Weaver as Ward, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, Jonny Coyne as an unnamed Imperial Warlord, Steve Blum as the voice of Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, and of course, Grogu as himself.
