Hermès has a flair for creating intriguing case shapes with a dash of poetic licence. Launched in 2024 and designed by creative director Philippe Delhotal, the Cut watch is a stylish, versatile, unisex, sporty-chic collection with a sophisticated design and an in-house movement. Adding a touch of colour, the new Hermès Cut sports a sky blue dial.
Like so many Hermès watches, the compact 36mm stainless steel case with a height of 10mm is more complex than meets the eye. While it might look like a round watch, the name of the collection refers to the design feature that gives this watch its personality. Interrupting the circular flow, the flanks of the case feature two cuts, two flat areas that have been shaved off to form a cushion-shaped case. To highlight this feature, the cuts are mirror-polished, contrasting with the circular-brushed case.
Another design decision to preserve the case’s silhouette is the position of the crown at 1:30. Available with 56 brilliant-cut diamonds in the bezel, the bezel without diamonds is finished with a circular brush and a polished chamfer. Fitted with glareproofed sapphire crystals front and back, the case is water-resistant to 100 metres.
The subtle light blue colour of the dial hosts the applied luminescent Arabic numerals specially developed for this watch by Philippe Delhotal. The numbers 0, 6, 8 and 9, for example, echo the rounded contours of the case. An iconic Hermès colour, the crown features an orange lacquered “H” and the orange circle on the seconds hand alights directly on the dark blue markings of the centrally positioned silver and snailed minutes track. The baton hour hand and the partially openworked minutes hand have a touch of luminescent material.
The watch is powered by the H1912 calibre made by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. An automatic movement with a frequency of 28,800vph, the calibre delivers a 50h power reserve. The mainplate is decorated with circular graining and sailing, while the bridges and rotor feature a sprinkling of “H” motifs.
The watch is paired with a misty blue textured rubber strap. Fitted with a patented release mechanism, it can be acquired with a metal link bracelet.
