The dream of an edge-to-edge iPhone display with no cutout could come true sooner than we thought. Per a new analyst report, next year’s iPhone Fold might be the first iPhone to move camera components under the display, thus offering a truly all-screen design.
iPhone Fold expected to feature under-display front camera
When Apple launched the iPhone X in 2017, it touted a “gorgeous all-glass design.” But as we all know, that design included a notch, which in 2022 shrank into the Dynamic Island.
Finally though, it seems Apple could be nearly ready to launch its first all-screen, cutout-free iPhone.
In a recent JPMorgan analyst report seen by 9to5Mac, the firm detailed expectations for the next several years of iPhone upgrades.
One particularly noteworthy detail involves the new iPhone Fold coming in 2026.
The report says Apple’s iPhone Fold will have an under-display 24MP front camera.
iPhone Fold is expected to include front cameras on both the outer display and its inner display. As a result, it seems likely that Apple will put the same selfie camera in both locations.

If JPMorgan is right, this would be the first time an iPhone utilized under-display camera technology.
It’s also noteworthy for another big reason: since iPhone Fold won’t have any Face ID components, it sounds like the screen will be entirely cutout-free.
With no cutout for a camera, and no cutout for Face ID due to Apple opting for Touch ID instead, we could be looking at truly all-screen displays.
Prior reporting indicated the iPhone Fold would utilize a hole-punch cutout for its front camera. Though one leaker previously suggested that the outer display might have a hole-punch while the inner one uses an under-display camera. His claims were fairly vague and hedgy, however.
But with an under-display camera, there’s no need even for a reduced camera cutout.
As a result, it’s very possible that both the outer and inner iPhone Fold screens will have no notch or even Dynamic Island—at least in hardware, as the software feature will likely live on.
This would represent a major step forward for iPhone design, and lead in well to the rumored ‘iPhone 20’ model the following year.
