The DFS Must Starts: Daniel Jones, Monangai Primed For Big Games In Week 9

Last week’s The DFS Must Starts were a letdown.

I had Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts and Devonta Smith as my stack play last week, and their final stats were not enough to move the scales to the green in my DraftKings tournaments.

Hurts had a great day tossing four touchdown passes, but he only threw for 179 yards. Smith had a good fantasy day with 6 catches for 84 yards but didn’t catch any of Hurts’ 4 TD passes.

Atlanta’s Bijan Robinson had his worst fantasy game of the season, while IndianapolisTyler Warren had his second worse DK fantasy day of the season.

Oh well! The beauty of daily fantasy sports that there is always a new week and new players.

Let’s get into Week 9’s plays!

QB DFS Must Starts

Daniel Jones, Indianapolis ($6,200, 3.5 percent rostered)

Jones is being overlooked this week despite the 50.5-point total in the Colts’ matchup against Pittsburgh.

There are two other games (Chicago at Cincinnati and Kansas City at Buffalo) that carry a higher total than the Colts and Steelers.

And Jones is a prime candidate to have a big week as Pittsburgh allows 23.4 DK points to quarterbacks this season.

Jones has scored 20-plus points for three straight games and his streak shouldn’t stop against the Steelers’ pass defense that has given up a league worst 273.3 yards a game.

Chalky Play: Jaxson Dart, NY Giants ($5,200, 22.9 percent rostered)

Value Play: Joe Flacco, Cincinnati ($5,600, 0.9 percent rostered)

RB DFS Must Starts

Kyle Monangai, Chicago ($4,600, 26.4 percent rostered)

Two weeks ago I had Monangai as my top Waiver Wire Stash, and the reason finally played out this week.

D’Andre Swift is out with a groin issue after a recent run of scoring 15.1 or more points in four straight games.

In steps Monangai.

The rookie out of Rutgers had shown some flashes in the Bears’ Week 7 win against New Orleans, but took a backseat in the loss to Baltimore last week.

Monangai has averaged 4.4 yards a rush and has added 6 receptions in his limited role this season.

Chalky Play: Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco ($8,800, 28.7 percent rostered)

Value Play: Chase Brown, Cincinnati ($5,900, 7.7 percent rostered)

WR DFS Must Starts

Michael Pittman Jr., Indianapolis ($5,900, 9.9 percent rostered)

I love using a stack play with my QB in DFS, and Pittman Jr. is a slightly better play this week than Colts’ TE Warren

And Pittman Jr. had success against the Steelers last season. He had 6 catches for 113 yards in their Week 4 win during the 2024 season.

And the Pittsburgh defense has been awful this season vs. WR in DFS. It has given up 40.8 DK points to WRs in 2025.

Chalky Play: Puka Nacua, LA Rams ($8,500, 20.1 percent rostered)

Value Play: Roman Wilson, Pittsburgh ($3,300, 0.9 percent rostered)

TE DFS Must Starts

Travis Kelce, Kansas City ($4,600, 5.3 percent rostered)

I know this may not be the best play at TE this week as the Bills have shut down TEs this season, but this has more to do about the Kansas City offense than the Bills defense.

Since Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy returned to the lineup together, Kelce has seen 11 targets in those two games. Since Worthy returned to the lineup since Week 4, Kelce has averaged 14.6 DK points in those five games.

Kelce may not be the Kelce from 5 years ago, but the Chiefs passing game is so diverse now that teams have struggled to target Kelce, who still has the knack of finding open spaces in the defenses.

Chalky Play: Tucker Kraft, Green Bay ($5,700, 11 percent rostered)

Value Play: Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh ($3,100, 2.2 percent rostered)

DST Plays

Detroit ($3,700, 4.7 percent rostered) home against Minnesota

Jacksonville ($3,300, 1.7 percent rostered) at Las Vegas

LA Chargers ($3,800, 5.7 percent rostered) at Tennessee
