‘The Batman Part II’ Rumored to Introduce Iconic DC Sidekick Robin

After years of anticipation, The Batman – Part II officially has a script, with filming set to commence in early 2026. Matt Reeves is set to return to the director’s chair, while Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as the titular Caped Crusader. More details from the long-awaited sequel have now surfaced, and it seems DC fans are in for a treat in the latest chapter of the Epic Crime Saga. This article has been updated to reflect a comment made by Gunn.

The InSneider reports that the script for The Batman – Part II by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin introduces Robin into the gritty crime saga. There is no clarity as to which version of Boy Wonder it might be, but it appears that the iconic sidekick is in the current version of the film. Additionally, the report claims that the latest draft “swings for the fences,” and sources say that it was “worth the wait.” Reeves and Tomlin turned in The Batman sequel script earlier this summer, but it seems the studio and co. are already confident that they have delivered the goods.

UPDATE: James Gunn has commented on the rumor via Threads. While he does not outright claim Robin is not in the film, he calls the report “nonsense” due to only a handful of people knowing what is in the script.

“Guys please stop believing this nonsense. I think six of us have read the script. No one knows anything about the Batman 2.”

Until Reeves or anyone else involved with the production confirms this information, the report should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has been adamant that people claiming to know the plot of The Batman sequel are simply making up rumors. At this stage of the game, however, details from the DC film are bound to leak as it gears up for production. Hopefully, fans will soon learn who will form part of the Part II cast, which currently includes Pattinson, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell.

As Matt Reeves preps to shoot The Batman – Part II in 2026, DC Studios still intends to introduce a DCU version of the iconic hero. Although fans have been keen on Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader joining the shared DC Universe, especially after the success of Superman, it seems Reeves is not merging his franchise anytime soon. Instead, The Brave and the Bold is set to feature a new Batman and, coincidentally, Robin.

Earlier this year, James Gunn confirmed that the Batman and Wonder Woman DCU film scripts are not only in development, but the main priorities for DC Studios. Gunn is not writing Brave and the Bold as he focuses on the next chapter of the Superman franchise. However, he revealed that an undisclosed writer is hard at work on the script, which Gunn is closely observing.

“No, I don’t — Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally. And it’s not — I’m not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he’s incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman. So outside of the stuff that I’m doing in the projects that are actively going, our two priorities are finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts.”
