Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud left Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos after an upper-body hit on a scramble as he slid and did not return.
Stroud left the game for concussion protocol in the first half and was later confirmed to have a concussion. The Texans ruled him out early in the third quarter.

The injury took place early in the second quarter. Stroud took off on third-and-8 and slid just short of the line of gain as two defenders converged on him.
Cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine hit Stroud as he slid, and Stroud remained down on his back for several moments after the hit. Athletic trainers tended to Stroud on the field, and the QB was able to walk to the sideline medical tent.
He quickly left the tent to walk to the locker room and was not on the field on Houston’s next possession.
Backup quarterback Davis Mills replaced Stroud at quarterback.
Officials flagged Abrams-Draine for the hit, but picked it up because they determined that there was no contact to Stroud’s head or neck. Abrams-Draine hit Stroud’s chest with his shoulder as Stroud slid. The back of Stroud’s head then bounced off the turf, causing the apparent head injury.
The 3-4 Texas had a 3-0 lead over the 6-2 Broncos at the time of Stroud’s injury.
