Terence Crawford’s victory over Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez pulled in a sizable audience on Netflix.
The bout, which took place at Allegiant Stadium in Nevada on Sept. 13, drew an average minute audience (AMA) of 36.6 million Live+Same Day viewers, per VideoAmp and Netflix. In Live+1, that number rose to 41.4 million viewers. The U.S. audience alone accounted for 20.3 million viewers in Live+Same Day.
The event peaked at 24 million concurrent streams and reached the number one slot on Netflix in 30 countries, including the U.S., Mexico, the U.K., Australia, Canada, and more.
For comparison, the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul in November 2024 — which was Netflix’s first foray into live boxing — pulled in an AMA of 108 million viewers and peaked at 65 million concurrent streams. More recently, the third matchup of Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano nabbed an AMA of 6 million viewers in July.
Crawford defeated Álvarez by unanimous decision after 12 rounds to win the undisputed super middleweight championship. Per Netflix, 70,482 people attended in person and generated a $47 million gate.
Elsewhere on the main card, Callum Walsh defeated Fernando Vargas Jr., while Mohammed Alakel beat Travis Kent Crawford. Both fights were unanimous decisions. Christian M’billi also fought Lester Martinez to a split draw in a super middleweight fight.
In addition to boxing, Netflix’s live sports ambitions include the NFL Christmas doubleheader and weekly airings of WWE’s “Monday Night Raw.” The latter program has made the Netflix global Top 10 every week it has been available on the service beginning in January 2025.
