With the rise of compact Android tablets over the past couple of years, TCL is now finally entering the ring with its NXTPAPER display tech, with the new TCL Tab 8 NXTPAPER 5G available today for $199.
TCL has been working on NXTPAPER for a few years now, with the display tech consisting of many hardware and software optimizations to make the display better for your eyes. The display has a matte texture first and foremost, but also optimizes things like low-light viewing by ditching PWM dimming for DC dimming, as well as improving on blue light and more, all to make the display as comfortable to use as possible. The software can also convert the experience into an e-reader by going fully black and white.
We’ve seen this on plenty of smartphones and tablets, but TCL is only now finally bringing it to a smaller Android tablet.
The TCL Tab 8 NXTPAPER has an 8.7-inch NXTPAPER display and features the latest NXTPAPER 4.0 that just launched earlier this year.
Like other recent NXTPAPER devices, this latest release has a dedicated key to switch display modes, but it’s still not the most powerful Android tablet out there. TCL is using an unnamed “octa-core processor” with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, both of which are pretty low in the modern Android space. The tablet will have a microSD card slot as well as a 6,000 mAh battery, with Android 15 running the show.
The TCL Tab 8 NXTPAPER is also a 5G-connected tablet, and it’s one that will be exclusive to Verizon Wireless. The tablet will also be coming to Total Wireless (owned by Verizon) “soon,” but can only be purchased from Verizon as of today. It costs $199.99.
