Taylor Swift’s ‘CANCELLED!’ Lyrics Appear to Reference a Candace Owens Quote About Blake Lively | Blake Lively, candace owens, Taylor Swift | Celebrity News and Gossip | Entertainment, Photos and Videos

Taylor Swift seems to have included a Candace Owens quote in her new song “CANCELLED!” and it seems to confirm the theory that the song is about Blake Lively.

While the media has pitted Taylor and Blake against each other for the past year amid Blake‘s It Ends With Us legal drama, it appears that they’re still friends, based on the song.

Taylor has confirmed that the song is about how she’s had her own experiences with mass judgement and scandalous moments, so she will stand by her friends’ side when they’re in those moments.

“Having had those experiences, it makes me move through the world a little bit differently. And when other people go through it, you kind of find yourself thinking about how they’re probably going to get smarter because of this. If they can get through it, if they can be tough enough, they can actually learn some things through this process. And how I don’t naturally just cast people aside just because other people decide they don’t like them. I make my own decisions about people based on how they treat me within my life and their actions,” Taylor said in her Amazon Music track-by-track breakdown.

So, what did Candace say and how is it included in the song?

While talking about Blake and Justin Baldoni‘s lawsuit on her podcast back in January 2025, Candace brought up Taylor in connection to the case and said, “This story is going to be remembered as girl boss flew too close to the sun.”

The podcast episode was titled, “The Taylor Swift Plot Thickens.”

Ahead of the first chorus on “CANCELLED,” Taylor sings, “Did you girlboss too close to the sun? / Did they catch you having far too much fun?”

Candace reacted to the lyrics by telling EW, “I love it. We have a small team, and we spent a great deal of time dedicated to that story, so we are celebrating the fact that Taylor Swift acknowledged it with her signature style of allusion. It’s particularly amusing that I said the entire legal saga would one day be remembered as the story of someone who ‘girl-bossed too close to the sun,’ and now, thanks to Taylor’s lyrical mastery, that day is today.”

Taylor has explained the meanings and stories behind all 12 songs on the album.
