Taylor Swift is shutting down “offensive” rumors that her current era will also be her last.
The 14-time Grammy winner unveiled her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” last week to major fanfare and boffo streaming numbers. The album’s release just weeks after Swift confirmed her engagement to NFL player Travis Kelce has prompted some fans to speculate that the couple’s upcoming wedding will also mark the end of Swift’s record-smashing music career.
Speaking to BBC Radio 2 journalist Scott Miles on Monday, however, Swift made it clear she has no intention of retreating from the spotlight.
“That’s a shockingly offensive thing to say,” Swift said when Mills pointed out some had suggested “The Life of a Showgirl” would be her last album. “That’s not why people get married, so that they can quit their job.”
After joking that her fans “love to panic sometimes,” she pointed out how supportive Kelce has been of her commitment to her career, particularly in the lead-up to the release of “The Life of a Showgirl.”
“He is so passionate about what he does that me being passionate about what I do, it connects us,” she said. “There’s no point in time where he’s going to be like, ‘I’m really upset that you’re still making new music.’”

“We both ― as a living, as a job, as a passion ― perform for three and a half hours in NFL stadiums … to entertain people,” she continued. “When I’m in those stadiums, it’s a dressing room. But when he’s in those exact same stadiums, it’s a locker room. For him, it’s practice. For me, it’s rehearsal. For him, it’s a game. For me, it’s a show.”
Kelce and Swift announced their engagement on Aug. 26 with a carousel of sweet photos on Instagram. However, it was later revealed the proposal had actually taken place on Aug. 10 after Swift recorded her appearance on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast.
While fans can still look forward to more surprises from “The Life of a Showgirl,” they may have to wait a bit before seeing Swift perform live.
In a separate interview with BBC Radio 1, the pop superstar said she had no immediate plans to hit the road following her massive Eras Tour, which wrapped in December of last year after becoming the highest-grossing tour of all time.
“I could only do the Eras Tour when I was on the Eras Tour, and that’s two years of just having no other hobbies,” she said. “I am so tired when I think about doing it again because I would want to do it really, really well again.”
