Tanya Simon has been named the executive producer of 60 Minutes, taking the helm of the CBS News broadcast amid the aftermath of Paramount Global’s settlement with Donald Trump and the pending merger with Skydance media.
Simon has served as interim EP since the exit of Bill Owens in April. She is just the fourth executive producer of the newsmagazine, which has been on the air for almost 57 years, and she is the first woman in the role.

Simon said, “60 is in a class of its own, upholding a legacy of extraordinary and thought-provoking journalism for more than half a century. I’m deeply committed to this level of excellence and I look forward to delivering an exciting season of signature 60 stories that cover a wide range of subjects for a broad audience and engage viewers with their world.”
Simon has been with the program for 25 years. Before stepping in an interim EP, she was executive editor for six seasons, and before that, she was senior producer. She started her career at CBS News as a researcher at 48 Hours.
Owens resigned earlier this year, saying that he no longer was able to make independent decisions about the show amid new corporate oversight. The network was grappling with Trump’s lawsuit against CBS News over the way that 60 Minutes edited an interview with Kamala Harris. Paramount Global settled the lawsuit for $16 million earlier this month, even though its legal team had called the litigation meritless. The lawsuit came as Paramount and Skydance seek Trump administration approval of their merger.
