The Sopranos is the most influential scripted TV show of this century, and only I Love Lucy and The Twilight Zone have a better argument for the top spot overall. The drama, starring the late James Gandolfini as a New Jersey Mob boss whose family and Family are equally hazardous to his health, has been endlessly celebrated, imitated, and quoted, to the point where even many people who haven’t seen it feel like they have. But even if you’ve watched it, how well do you really know the finer points of life in Essex County? Let’s put your knowledge to the test.

Zero to 30% correct: Ohhhh! You’re a civilian neighbor like Dr. Bruce Cusamano. You’re aware of Tony Soprano and his work, but don’t know too much about the inner workings of the Family, and your favorite Italian restaurant might be Olive Garden. We would strongly recommend sitting down as soon as possible to binge the entire series, preferably with a book that offers a helpful episode-by-episode guide to your journey, as well as a large plate of capicola — or, as Tony and friends say it, “gabagool.”
31 to 60% correct: You did not disrespect the pizza parlor! You’re at least a Family associate, possibly in consideration for soldier. You’ve seen most if not all of the episodes, but probably only once each. So we would recommend another binge. (And when you’re done, that book also has deep-dive conversations with Sopranos creator David Chase.)
61 to 100% correct: Quasimodo predicted that you’re a made guy, possibly even a capo. You get to play cards in the back room at the pork store. You get seated immediately when you show up at Vesuvio. Everyone at the Bada Bing refers to you by name when you enter. You can probably even name all the songs on the jukebox at Holsten’s, and point out plot discrepancies between the series and its prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark.
