Bruce Springsteen has more criticisms about President Donald Trump and his second term in office. In an interview with Time Magazine, The Boss talks about the aftermath of the 2024 Presidential election and how he feels the President deceived people.
“A lot of people bought into his lies,” Springsteen says. “He doesn’t care about the forgotten anybody but himself and the multibillionaires who stood behind him on Inauguration Day.” Springsteen also remarked that “you have to face the fact that a good number of Americans are simply comfortable with his politics of power and dominance.”
The 76-year-old Jersey rock icon, who has been a longtime critic of Trump, called the administration “corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous” during the opening night of his “Land of Hope & Dreams” tour with the E Street Band in Manchester, England, in May. President Trump responded the next day, calling Springsteen “dumb as a rock” and a “dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker.”
“I absolutely couldn’t care less what he thinks about me,” Springsteen said in the interview.
What he doesn’t laugh about is the state of the nation.
“He’s the living personification of what the 25th Amendment and impeachment were for. If Congress had any guts, he’d be consigned to the trash heap of history.”
Springsteen also discussed the need for an opposition party that can communicate more efficiently with all American citizens.
“We’re desperately in need of an effective alternative party, or for the Democratic Party to find someone who can speak to the majority of the nation,” Springsteen said. “There is a problem with the language that they’re using and the way they’re trying to reach people.”
The interview comes as Springsteen’s songbook with be thrust onto the silver screen, as a biopic titled “Deliver Me From Nowhere” — starring Jeremy Allen White as Bruce during his early ‘80s “Nebraska” era — hits theaters Oct. 24. The movie filmed extensively throughout New Jersey last fall and winter.
