Spotify is rolling out a new messaging service to free and premium users ages 16 and older in select markets this week.
It will allow users to share music, podcasts, audiobooks and more with those they interact with on the platform, as well as carry on conversations using text and emojis.

For example, a user can share a song, podcast or audiobook by tapping the share icon in the now playing view, selecting a friend and hitting send.
The user receiving the message must accept a message request to access the message, allowing them to interact. Users can access messages by going to their personal profile photo in the top left corner.
Spotify content will also remain sharable on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, TikTok and other platforms.
According to Reuters, Spotify had a similar messaging feature but removed it in 2017 over low engagement numbers.
The music streamer had 696 million monthly active users in the second quarter, but is pushing for 1 billion.
