Sora’s new iOS app has, by all appearances, been a big hit for OpenAI. And in a recent post, the company revealed several new features coming to the Sora app soon. Here are the details.
Three new features coming to Sora app next
Bill Peebles, head of Sora at OpenAI, recently posted on X with a preview of what’s coming to the video app. Here are three new features he highlighted:
#1: Character cameos
You’ll be able to cameo your dog, guinea pig, favorite stuffed toy, and pretty much anything else you want. you can also create cameos of generated characters straight from your sora videos.
Peebles said character cameos should arrive any day now. And when the feature debuts, the generation UI will be updated to show the latest trending cameos in real time.
#2: Video editing capabilities
The first video editing feature will provide the ability to easily stitch multiple clips together. But Peebles teased that there are other, more powerful new features coming in this department soon.
#3: Channels/Groups
A big priority for OpenAI is making Sora a better social experience with your friends. So rather than just focusing on the global feed, the app will also introduce ways to connect and see content from smaller groups.
In his post, Peebles says to think of these as “channels” that are specific to, for example, a sports club, university, company, or some other group or affiliation.

Finally, Peebles emphasizes quality of life improvements coming like reduced moderation and boosts to overall app performance. He also says an Android version is “actually coming soon.”
The reduction of moderation seems in stark contrast to the recent agreement with actors to crack down on deepfakes. But I’m curious to see how this plays out.
