As Forza Horizon 5’s sales on PS5 justify Microsoft’s multi-platform efforts, Sony’s decision to put Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X|S is also looking to be a worthwhile success. Just one week after release, the port is considered the “top paid game” on the platform and is in first place on the “best seller” list.
Spotted by Eurogamer, you can navigate to these kinds of rankings on the Xbox Store and see what’s been selling best, though there obviously aren’t any hard numbers attached. The base version of Helldivers 2 is in top spot, while the more expensive Super Citizen Edition is the fourth best-selling game on Xbox currently.
Only the Superstar Edition of NBA 2K26 and Minecraft on PC are proving more popular than the Super Citizen Edition, but nothing is selling better than the standard version of Helldivers 2.
While we don’t have official sales numbers for the Xbox Series X|S version yet, estimates from Alinea Analytics suggest the port has sold more than 600,000 copies, as of 28th August. The game is also proving more popular as it goes, now listed as the ninth most-played title on Xbox. Last week, it was in 15th place.
Whether this growing success has any impact on Sony’s decision-making surrounding PS5 ports to other consoles remains to be seen. The expansion onto Xbox allowed Helldivers 2 to get a Halo 3: ODST collaboration, bringing Halo content to PlayStation. On the same day, Gears of War: Reloaded also launched on PS5.
What’s becoming increasingly clear is that there is a demand for select PlayStation titles on Xbox. Given the fanbase’s roots in multiplayer, there’s potential for more online-focused efforts from Sony to launch on Xbox Series X|S alongside PS5. Marathon from Bungie was announced for Xbox on day one, but what about Fairgames?
