‘SNL’ Weekend Update Roasts Trump’s Halloween, White House Renovations

Colin Jost and Michael Che pick apart the president’s Halloween “at what’s left of the White House”

Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update mocked Donald Trump‘s multiple White House renovations, as well his inability to be normal even while giving out candy to trick or treaters.

Co-anchor Colin Jost honed in one of of Trump’s interactions with a costumed child on Friday at “what’s left of the White House.” Trump, like he did in 2019, put a piece of candy on the child’s head—instead of in the bag they’re carrying around for that very reason.

“Just put it the bag!” Jost said. “Why is he so weird? Even the kids is like, ‘This is not right.’ It’s kind of an embodiment of his entire presidency—just a violation of norms that no other president or person has ever conceived of. Like who’s ever thought: ‘I should just put the candy on the kid’s head.’”

Jost also ribbed the president and first lady for walking out to greet trick or treaters while Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” played.

“Just the perfect soundtrack to lure kids to a famous mansion,” he joked.

Co-anchor Michael Che then addressed Trump proudly announcing the remodeling of a White House bathroom, on top of his demolition of the East Wing, which had stood for 123 years.

Critics are calling the move “tone deaf,” Che said. “But I’m happy that the floor looks slippery.”

Jost also mocked some of Trump’s trip to Asia this week. Noting that the president was given a gold crown and beef patties with ketchup while in South Korea, Jost joked that the 79-year-old basically just had a Happy Meal with a toy. And as for Trump rating his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping a “12” on a scale of one to ten, Jost said: “I guess Trump just wanted to show China we’re still way worse at math.”
