Kate McKinnon‘s humor put her on the map along time ago – and now she’s revealed she has one on her tongue.
The Saturday Night Live alum revealed she suffers from a rare condition called geographic tongue – which is characterized by smooth, red patches on the tongue that resemble a map.
While it’s not life threatening, McKinnon, 41, admitted the condition is ‘gross,’ opening up about how she found out she had it.
‘I took a photo of my tongue and sent it to an actor friend of mine,’ McKinnon recently told People.
‘We both have the same medical condition. It’s called geographic tongue,’ she continued.
‘Your tongue sheds in patches and looks like an atlas, hence the name “geographic tongue,”‘ the comedian explained.
However, McKinnon hasn’t let her condition get in her way of having a good time, admitting she and her friend ‘brag’ about their tongue’s appearance.
‘We brag about how geographic we are on any given day,’ she told the publication.

‘Maybe I shouldn’t be saying this in a magazine,’ the actress quipped.
According to Mayo Clinic, geographic tongue is an inflammatory but harmless condition affecting the surface of the tongue, which look like a map – hence it’s name.
The tongue is usually covered with tiny, pinkish-white bumps called papillae, which are actually fine, hair-like structures.
The condition only affects approximately three percent of people worldwide, although The Cleveland Clinic notes the number may be higher in reality, as many people don’t seek medical help.
‘With geographic tongue, patches on the surface of the tongue are missing papillae. These patches are smooth and red, often with slightly raised borders,’ the site explained.
‘Although geographic tongue may look alarming, it does not cause health issues,’ Mayo Clinic noted.
‘It’s not related to infection or cancer. Geographic tongue sometimes can cause tongue pain and make you more sensitive to certain foods, such as spices, salt and even sweets.’
Luckily for sufferers, the condition will go away on it is own, although it can continue for days, months or years, with instances of reoccurrences.
McKinnon, who is releasing her children’s book, Secrets of the Purple Pearl, the second in her series The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science, also shared some tidbits from her life in the interview on including the last thing she took from a film set.

‘I was given — I didn’t steal — a chess piece from the Barbie set,’ the actress revealed.
‘The set and prop designers for Barbie were the most incredible artists and artisans and the stuff they made to fill out the world of the Dreamhouse and the Weird Barbie house really should be in a museum,’ she shared.
‘They made a full chess set with these chess pieces in Weird Barbie aesthetic and they were so magical, and I was given, I want say it was a bishop? Tough to tell.’
She also revealed which celebrities she gets starstruck around – confessing meeting anyone from the Bachelor universe will leave her geographical tongue-tied.
‘I met Jesse Palmer at the SNL 50th Anniversary Special,’ Mckinnon gushed. ‘I think I would be most starstruck if I met someone from the HGTV universe. If I met Aziza I would fall at her feet.’
