Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit is scheduled to be held on September 23, with rumors circulating that, in addition to announcing its flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, which will serve as the direct successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the company is also planning something else for its smartphone partners. For those wanting to keep healthier margins by offering consumers that ticks both price and performance, a tipster claims that a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is being prepared and will share the same 3nm ‘N3P’ manufacturing process as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. However, the major difference is that handsets featuring the non-flagship SoC could start from just $280.
Tipster claims that aside from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, smartphones equipped with the Dimensity 9400+ and Dimensity 9500e could be priced as low as under $350
The rumor was posted by Digital Chat Station, who previously mentioned that Qualcomm was developing a new silicon with the designation number ‘SM8845,’ which he now claims on Weibo to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Unlike the company’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, its successor will apparently be mass produced on the best manufacturing process and will sport custom Oryon CPU cores like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. The best part is that where Qualcomm’s smartphone partners have had to pay a premium for the Snapdragon 8 Elite this year, they will get to pocket higher margins.
On the micro-blogging social network, the tipster states that Snapdragon 8 Gen 5-powered devices will be priced in the 2,000-2,500 yuan range, meaning that customers who cannot fork out more than $280-$350 will still get to enjoy flagship features without spending a small fortune. Fortunately, even if Qualcomm starts having the wrong idea and begins charging its customers a premium, the rumor states that Dimensity 9400+ and Dimensity 9500e options will also be available, along with bigger batteries thanks to a shift to silicon-carbon technology.

The tipster had previously claimed that Qualcomm will continue to sell the Snapdragon 8 Elite next year, with its partners expected to price their products in the same aforementioned range, so we cannot confirm which rumor holds the truth. Our only recommendation to readers is that you treat this information with a pinch of salt and we will return with more updates, hopefully later this month.
