The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is Qualcomm’s latest and greatest smartphone SoC yet. The successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite powers the new Xiaomi 17 series, and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has now been put through a series of gaming tests alongside the A19 Pro-powered iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Starting with Wuthering Waves, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max maintains an average frame rate of 59.1 FPS, versus the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 57.8 FPS. More impressively, the Xiaomi phone does that while drawing an average of 4.83 W, while the iPhone draws 5.89 W. It must be noted, too, that the Xiaomi phone was running at a slightly higher resolution than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
It’s more of the same on Honkai Impact 3rd. At identical resolutions, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max keeps an average of 59.6 FPS, with the iPhone 17 Pro Max averaging 58.8 FPS in comparison. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 phone draws less power, too—5.30 W, versus the iPhone’s 5.52 W.
In addition to being more powerful and efficient, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max also runs cooler than the iPhone 17 Pro Max on these tests. In the first test, the Xiaomi phone hits a maximum temperature of 39.0°C, while the iPhone gets to 43.3°C. In the second, it’s 40.5°C vs 42.7°C, again in favor of the Xiaomi flagship.
I like tech, simple as. Half the time, you can catch me writing snarky sales copy. The rest of the time, I’m either keeping readers abreast with the latest happenings in the mobile tech world or watching football. I worked as both a journo and freelance content writer for a couple of years before joining the Notebookcheck team in 2017.
