Shaun White has officially completed his first interview as a newly single man following last week’s news that he and Nina Dobrev had called off their engagement. People confirmed that the longtime couple called it quits on Thursday, September 11.
“It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another,” a source told the outlet.

The interview in question concerned the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will mark the first time in 20 years that the athlete isn’t competing in the Games. White sat down with the hosts of Today to discuss his plans to cheer on his country from the sidelines.
“I’ll be running around, definitely supporting my friends competing and just taking it in,” he said. “This will be my first Winter Olympics where I’m not competing, so a lot of feelings there, but honestly, I’m excited to support and check it out.”

White also noted that the competition will be hosted in Italy this year, which just so happens to have hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics, a.k.a. White’s first.
“My first Olympics was in Italy that I competed at, so this is bringing a lot of memories going back to Italy. Should be fun,” he said, before jokingly adding: “I might have to bring the hair back.”
As for the couple’s surprise split? While White has kept mum since last Thursday, a source recently told Us Weekly that the breakup is still “very fresh.”
“Nina is devastated,” the insider told the publication. “They had finally started planning the wedding and things were in motion.”
