Dallas native and international track superstar Sha’Carri Richardson was booked into a Des Moines, Washington jail Sunday evening and released on Monday, according to South Correctional Entity jail records.
There is no charge listed or further details on the booking at this time.
Jonathan Gault of LetsRun.com first reported that Richardson was arrested on Sunday after an incident at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport.
Richardson was arrested after an incident with her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, according to a police report obtained by The Athletic. The case has reportedly since been cleared.
According to the report obtained by The Athletic, the arresting officer detailed a heated argument between Richardson and Coleman. The arresting officer witnessed Richardson shove Coleman multiple times as he walked away from her and deemed there was enough probable cause to arrest Richardson. The offense was listed as a fourth-degree domestic violence assault.
USA Track and Field declined to comment.
Richardson ran in the opening rounds of the women’s 100m on Thursday in Eugene, Oregon, where she clocked an 11.07 seconds.
Richardson withdrew from the 100m semifinals on Friday afternoon. However, she has an automatic qualifier to this year’s world championships in Tokyo, Japan, since she was the world champion in the event from the 2023 world championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Richardson is still entered in the women’s 200m heats. The women’s 200m final will be aired on NBC and Peacock and is scheduled for Sunday at 4:13 p.m.
In 2021, the Dallas native accepted a one-month competition ban after testing positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
In a TV interview with NBC, Richardson explained that she had used marijuana to cope with the death of her biological mother and the pressures of the sport.
This is a developing story.
