The Seahawks signed cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles, running back Damien Martinez and tackle Amari Kight to their practice squad on Wednesday, bringing back a trio of players who were released from the practice squad a day earlier.
Defensive tackle Anthony Campbell, defensive end Jalan Gaines and guard Sataoa Laumea were released a day after signing to the practice squad.
The Seahawks’ practice squad juggling since establishing an initial 17-player squad last week reflects what general manager and president of football operations John Schneider discussed last week, which is that the Seahawks don’t view their team as just the 53 players on the active roster, or even the 70 on the roster and practice squad, but rather the extended group of players who were with the team in training camp who they expect to be ready to contribute at some point this season so long as they’re still available.
“Really excited about our 70, and we’ll keep working that 90 group too, and then all the guys that have been let go, bringing in guys for workouts, having a nice ready list together for the season,” Schneider said. “Bringing guys in for workouts, getting physicals and see where we are and see where we can go to so we can keep the competition going throughout the season and make our team as strong as we possibly can for this opening game against San Francisco, as well as the end of February.”
